Building A Killer List with Forum Marketing

The money is in an email list.  There's no two ways around it.  If you have a good email list that you can send out to whenever you feel like it, you're not going to have any problem at all making money.

Now don't get me wrong, you have to have a good list.  What constitutes a good list?

• The people on your list actually WANT to be on your list.  This means that they signed up for your list.  Don't scoop up emails that you find other places and put those people on your mailing list.  This is unethical and you will only make people mad.
• Your list is targeted.  Everyone on each specific list needs to have the same interest (for example dog training).  You don't want to send out an email about a new weight loss product to subscribers that are interested in dog training.  Feel free to create more than one list in order to keep your niches separated and organized.

So the almighty question is, "How in the heck do I get targeted subscribers?"  There are many different ways to go about trying to build your mailing list, but I've found that one of the easiest (and it's free by the way) methods is to use internet forums.  This is so simple that it's almost painful.

Here's what you do to get started building your list with internet forums:

• Make sure you have an opt-in page.  This is the page where someone goes to enter their email address and join your mailing list.  This page should have some compelling reasons why it would BENEFIT THEM to be on your mailing list.
• I like to offer a free product in exchange for them joining my list.  You can either create a product yourself (like an ebook), or you can purchase private label rights (PLR) articles or ebooks that you can give away.  An enticing offer increases the chances that people will give you their email address.  Then all you have to do is send them their free bonus product once they sign up.
• Now you need to find a good forum to start posting in.  You can either go to Google (or any search engine) and search for a forum in your niche, or you can go to Big-Boards.com and look through the list.  The closer it relates to your niche, the better.  Be sure to check out how much traffic the forum is getting though.  If no one visits the site, no one will see your advertisements and you won't get any new subscribers.
• Register at your chosen forum and fill out your profile COMPLETELY.  You want anyone that checks out your profile to see that you are committed to the forum.
• Pay special attention to setting up your signature.  This is the key to this whole method.  Put your link to your opt-in page in your signature, along with an enticing description of the free product you are offering.  Make your signature look good and stand out from the crowd.
  
• Read through some of the posts in the forum to get a feel for the atmosphere.  You may offend people if you don't know the proper etiquette of the forum.
• Once you have a feel for the place, start posting away.  Now I don't mean posting just for the sake of posting.  You need to post helpful, relevant content.  Look for people asking questions and give them an answer.  The more helpful they think you are, the more likely they are going to notice your post and visit your signature link.
• If you are having trouble finding posts to comment on, most forums have a new member introduction thread where people make their first post.  This is an easy place to make several posts.  Just tell each new person hello, and welcome them to the forum.

You need to keep at this for it to be successful.  The more you post, the more people are going to see your signature link and visit your opt-in page.  You need to post everyday that you can, and definitely feel free to join more than one forum.  The number of people who subscribe to your list is proportionate to the number of posts you make.

That's about all there is to building a list with forum marketing.  It's a pretty simple concept, but it can be extremely powerful if you put in the time and effort.
